Speaking at the East London City Hall on Tuesday, the Executive Mayor said the changes form part of efforts to align leadership with key municipal priorities and improve the functioning of the city ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
“The reconfiguration is an intervention to address persistent challenges and ensure the municipality is better positioned to deliver services to our residents,” she said.
The reshuffled Mayoral Committee will oversee key portfolios that include infrastructure, finance, human settlements and economic development.
The newly appointed members are:
Spatial Planning: Cllr Zininzi Mtyingizane
Human Settlements: Cllr Sakhumzi Caga
Public Safety and Emergency Services: Cllr Noma-Afrika Maxongo
Local Economic Development Agencies: Cllr Amanda Mnyute
Sport, Recreation and Community Development: Cllr Amanda Ralasi
Corporate Services: Cllr Bongiwe Sauli
Finance: Cllr Yomelela Tyali
Infrastructure and Energy: Cllr Malibongwe Mfazwe
Water and Sanitation: Cllr Mninawe Nyusile
Solid Waste and Environment: Cllr Clara Morolong-Yekiso
Executive Mayor Cllr Faku said the committee will assist her in implementing the city’s development priorities, including improving service delivery, stabilising municipal finances and supporting economic growth.
