TOURISM COMPLIANCE WORKSHOP | ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT | kuGOMPO CITY

Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality hosted a Tourism Compliance Workshop on Friday 5 June 2026 at the Osner Hotel kuGompo City, bringing together tourism and hospitality businesses from across the city to strengthen compliance standards, improve service delivery and position Buffalo City as a competitive and world class tourism destination.
The workshop themed Building a Competitive, Compliant and Event-Ready Tourism Sector for Buffalo City was directed by BCMM General Manager Fresh Produce Market Mr Thando Mpulu and opened with welcome by the Head of the Directorate for Economic Development and Agen-cies Ms N. Ncokazi, who also outlined the purpose of the engagement.
The workshop comes off the back of an internal compliance initiative driven by Buffalo City Tourism following an increase in complaints from clients and stakeholders regarding non-compliance, inconsistent service standards and operational challenges within certain hospitality establishments.
The department identified the need for a structured intervention to strengthen compliance awareness and support local businesses while maintaining Buffalo City as an attractive and competitive tourism destination.
The workshop has brought together representatives from the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency, the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, the Fire Department, Environmental Health, City Planning, the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association and the Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa among others.
